L’incipit di ogni discussione sulla Calabria andrebbe affidata a Corrado Alvaro e al suo libro “La Calabria”. Da profondo conoscitore della Regione la descrive come il paese dell’anima, una musa affascinante che, in un percorso storico, geografico, culturale e popolare, viene da lui definita una “bellezza di pura geologia”.
Paradossalmente, l’arretratezza di questa regione costituisce il suo valore aggiunto, dal momento che l’isolamento delle aree interne ce le ha fatto giungere apparentemente intatte.
La sensazione che si ha dinanzi ad un paesaggio dell’Appennino calabro è di estrema “selvatichezza” (nel senso che la natura ha riconquistato molti degli spazi che le erano stati sottratti), quasi di esoticità (nel senso di una totale alterità rispetto al resto del paesaggio italiano). E proprio per questo bisogna tendere verso uno sviluppo sostenibile che preservi il bello ed il neo-autentico, che crei possibilità di miglioramento della vita di tutti.
Nell’immaginario collettivo la bellezza di questa terra viene spesso offuscata dalle continue emergenze sanitarie, sociali e di legalità per cui a volte è stata, maldestramente, definita “una terra perduta e irrecuperabile”.
Per Francesco Bevilacqua, scrittore e avvocato, si tratta di pregiudizi legati al brigantaggio del passato e della criminalità contemporanea. In una delle sue tante opere, “Lettere Meridiane, cento libri per conoscere la Calabria”, troviamo la chiave di lettura per capire questa terra: dalla “questione meridionale”, alla ‘ndrangheta, alle calamità naturali ma anche ai temi sacri e alle riflessioni avvincenti sul paesaggio lontano anni luce da stereotipi e clichè. Questi ultimi, se usati in eccesso, favoriscono il consolidamento di “luoghi comuni” culturalmente arretrati e dannosi all’immagine di questa regione.
Marco Vitale, economista e studioso del Meridione, nel libro “Il Sud Esiste” nel parlare delle sue esperienze professionali e dei limiti dello sviluppo del Mezzogiorno, affronta temi quali i circuiti virtuosi, determinati da istituzioni che incoraggiano la prosperità e che le mettono al riparo dalle elite che le minacciano, e circoli viziosi dove invece troviamo istituzioni che creano povertà e che consente loro di perdurare. Traccia, altresì, un percorso che guarda al futuro incoraggiando la speranza verso un nuovo umanesimo che punti ad uno sviluppo dal basso.
Senza entrare nelle questioni di genere mi fa piacere ricordare Ginevra dell’Orso, una milanese che ha scelto di vivere in Calabria, che in un bellissimo articolo “Se la Calabria fosse Donna” scrive: “Se la Calabria fosse donna si potrebbe parlare di lei in tanti modi: non solamente per la sfacciata bellezza, ma per la sua cultura, la sua saggezza , la sua conoscenza in campo filosofico, matematico, astronomico. In realtà se la Calabria fosse una donna, avrebbe tantissimi buoni motivi per vantarsi e le vorrei dire questo: tiratela di più, è arrivato il tuo momento”.
Tra qualche mese si terranno le elezioni regionali con la possibilità di avere una nuova classe dirigente. Si auspica possa essere dotata di competenza, onestà e visione strategica. I fondi della Next Generation Eu sono un’occasione importante per realizzare opere specifiche e strategiche. Se spesi male sarà l’ennesima occasione persa!
