IL MIO PIANO PER IL FUTURO DEL VIMM

Lo scorso 8 maggio, su mandato del Consiglio di Amministrazione, che mi ha votata all’unanimità, sono diventata Presidente per la Fondazione per la Ricerca Biomedica Avanzata, l’istituto nato per sostenere l’attività dell’Istituto Veneto di Medicina Molecolare, il VIMM.

Nato nel 1996 per iniziativa del Prof. Pagano, da cui raccolgo il testimone, oggi il VIMM è un polo di eccellenza a livello nazionale e internazionale per la ricerca in biologia cellulare e molecolare, con 230 ricercatori da tutto il mondo impegnati nel trasferire in ambito clinico l’attività scientifica.

È un istituto, e sono orgogliosa di dirlo, che annovera delle vere e proprie eccellenze delle varie discipline scientifiche, come testimoniato dall’elevato numero di paper e articoli accettati dalle più prestigiose pubblicazioni internazionali e dal fatto che lavorano da noi ben tre ricercatori selezionati e finanziati su base pluriennale dall’European Research Council.

Essere Presidente del VIMM è un incarico importante e un compito impegnativo ma sono fiduciosa, perché non sono sola. Tutt’altro: negli ultimi mesi abbiamo nominato come Scientific Advisor lo studioso di fama mondiale Andrea Ballabio, e scelto un’eccellenza del nostro istituto, Nicola Elvassore, come Direttore Scientifico. Parallelamente, abbiamo istituito l’incarico di Direttore Generale – affidato al manager Paolo Marizza – e nominato un nuovo Consiglio di Amministrazione, del quale sono entrate a far parte figure di assoluto rilievo del mondo della scienza, dell’imprenditoria e della finanza.

Oltre alla forza e alla competenza che abbiamo sviluppato all’interno, possiamo contare all’esterno su una rete consolidata e qualificata di partnership, a partire dalla decennale collaborazione con l’Università degli Studi e con l’Azienda Ospedaliera di Padova, ma anche con la Fondazione Cariparo, la Banca dei Territori di Intesa Sanpaolo e con i molti altri soggetti pubblici e privati con cui collaboriamo ogni giorno.

Un ringraziamento speciale va al Presidente Zaia e alla Regione Veneto, che hanno creduto da subito e con entusiasmo in quello che facciamo al VIMM e nella direzione comune che vogliamo intraprendere: una sanità capace di rispondere sempre di più e sempre meglio alle necessità dei pazienti, in un sistema che sostituisce l’approccio generalista con la medicina di precisione e con la scienza del futuro.

Ma la ricerca necessita non solo di visione, di attenzione e di cura quotidiana: servono fondi e partner capaci di attivare collaborazioni virtuose con le persone, le aziende, il territorio e le comunità in cui viviamo. Per questo siamo grati a tutti coloro che, insieme ai nostri partner storici, finanziano i nostri progetti di ricerca: sto pensando a Fondazioni come AIRC e Telethon, all’ASCOM di Padova, Fondazione Stevanato e a tutti gli imprenditori e le associazioni che ci sostengono e che sostengono i nostri ricercatori.

L’obiettivo comune, su cui intendiamo concentrarci con il massimo sforzo, è quello di portare il VIMM a diventare una realtà sempre più conosciuta e sempre più eccellente, partendo dallo sviluppo filoni di ricerca su cui si focalizza il piano programmatico e di sviluppo 2023-2026, che approveremo nelle prossime settimane.

Concludo, e ci tengo a farlo, ricordando come il VIMM sia un’eccellenza costruita sulle donne, sul loro coraggio e sulla loro capacità di resilienza: non sto parlando di me, ma del fatto che più dell’ 80% dei ricercatori del VIMM sono giovani donne.

Un altro motivo di soddisfazione e di orgoglio, che mi spinge e ci spinge a proseguire nel nostro percorso e a credere nel futuro del VIMM e della scienza.
